How REALTORS® Can Earn Mindshare

How many real estate agents do you think a person can name off the top of their head?

Most likely, none.

Why is that?

Well, because this is what the average buyer’s journey looks like:

  1. The homebuyer needs a Realtor®.
  2. They go to Google and search for Realtors® in their area.
  3. They find one with good reviews and make a call.
  4. That’s the Realtor® they work with. If the first agent doesn’t pick up, they call a second, and work with that one.
  5. The transaction occurs.
  6. The homebuyer moves in and moves on and eventually forgets about their agent.

Not very glamorous, nor exciting. People simply don’t have enough brain space for a laundry list of local real estate agents to recall off the top of their head. But in some communities there is an agent that everyone seems to know. Maybe they have creative yard signs, or a catchy jingle that’s been on the radio for years.

These kinds of marketing tactics can be expensive, especially for new agents. Luckily, when someone doesn’t have a lot of money to throw around, they can always compensate with hard work. Be creative with your method of outreach, but, more importantly, go hard. It doesn’t matter if your approach isn’t polished to perfection; it just matters that you get out there and do it.

When you make phone calls and send out emails, follow it up with some kind of marketing collateral.

If it’s as simple as a postcard, that’s a good start. But if you can identify the people who can drive your mindshare, and spread your brand as an influencer, hit them with a copy of a personally branded magazine. This adds gravitas to your relatively fresh brand and keeps you top of mind forever.

Create a constant cycle and your mindshare will only grow as time goes on. Create a flywheel of exposure that grows your business and your profits. In the early stages of your career, gaining momentum can seem impossible, but if you practice consistency over an extended period of time, you can be the real estate agent on everyone’s mind.
