Ep. 480: How to Keep Talent without Big Money
Heβs Retaining Talent by Helping His Agents Live the Life They Want
The key to keeping talent is to provide people with a means to achieve their vision of success.
Jason Martinβs team in Washington, DC, has been named one of the best real estate teams in the country by the Wall Street Journal. So among questions about what heβs doing to generate leads and a conversation about what makes Michael Jordan and other great achievers different from most people, we naturally had to ask him how he attracts and retains top talent for his agency.
You might imagine that Jasonβs answer included a list of benefits and amenities, such as state-of-the-art systems and attractive commission splits. While weβre sure thatβs part of what he offers, Jason highlighted a different type of consideration: βIf I can give them value, they tend to stick around.β
One manβs junk is another manβs treasure
Because value is subjective, Jason needs to understand what each of his agents wants out of life. Only then can he provide them with a means to achieve it. However, what each agent wants will be different and likely not what Jason would want for themβand thereβs the rub.
What do you do when the people who work for you donβt share your vision of success?
Youβll find at least one answer to this vexing question in Jasonβs interview.
We hope you enjoy this episode and act on the advice Luke offers at the end. Weβd also appreciate it if you took a moment to leave us a 5-star review and comment on Apple Podcasts. (We read them on air!) Thanks for listening!
