Ep. 446: A Rags to Riches Story of Epic Proportions (with David Price)

What Is It That Makes Some People Able to Just Keep Going?

Key idea: What happens in your life doesn’t happen to you—it happens for you. The difference between looking at events one way instead of the other lies in how you choose to respond.

I get knocked down, but I get up again. You’re never gonna keep me down.

In general, we go into Stay Paid interviews looking to explore some aspect of running a successful business: how to generate leads, get more referrals, gain efficiencies, elevate your marketing, hire and retain good people, or something equally relevant to small business owners. Guests usually offer advice based on their experiences along with tips they’ve found useful.

Lately, we’ve also begun to feature guests who have inspiring stories to share. In having them tell their stories, we hope to inspire listeners to gain some confidence, find the motivation, and take responsibility to keep acting in pursuit of their dreams.

This week’s interview with David Price, founder and CEO of The Price Group, falls into this second category.

Today, David is a highly successful final expense life insurance agent turned broker who, over the course of five short years, has steadily increased his income to the point of making more than a million dollars a year in passive revenue. But life wasn’t always this good . . .

Listen to David’s interview to discover how he overcame a childhood defined by utter poverty, drug-addicted parents, and homelessness, plus years of moving from job to job and state to state.

You’ll hear him talk about the several businesses he either worked for, started, or owned and how he ended up walking away from each of them.

And you’ll learn about a moment of self-reflection that caused him to give up a job that paid him $30K for three weeks of work to start the journey that finally got him to where he is today.

In addition to benefiting from his wisdom born of pain and experience, David also shares what he looks for in the more than 50 agents he hires every week (yes, his business is growing that fast!) for his agency. Finally, you’ll appreciate how he keeps his agents motivated while encouraging the patience necessary for their eventual success—it’s pretty incredible.

We hope you enjoy this episode and act on the advice Luke offers at the end. We’d also appreciate it if you took a moment to leave us a 5-star review and comment on Apple Podcasts. (We read them on air!) Thanks for listening!
