Ep. 390: How Brock Johnson Gained 35K Followers Without Spending a Dime
Instagram Tips You Can’t Live Without
If you’re looking to grow Instagram followers organically, then you can’t miss this episode
Who should listen: If you’re wondering how to grow an Instagram account organically, simply, and with (almost) minimal effort, then you can stop looking. We’ve got what you need.
Key idea: If we had to pick one, it would be that consistency trumps frequency. Dedicate yourself to posting what you can sustain.
We’re not exaggerating when we say that during the course of Brock Johnson’s interview, we lost track of how many exceptionally helpful, practical, and valuable Instagram tips he shared with the Stay Paid audience. This guy was super generous, and we can’t wait for you to listen to the episode.
These show notes are going to give you just the smallest taste of the feast that awaits you. Try just a single tip, and you’re guaranteed to grow your Instagram following. Apply them where applicable to other social media platforms, and you’re going to see similar results.
There is no simpler way to repurpose content
This blew us away . . .
By his own admission, two-thirds of Brock’s Instagram content isn’t new.
He repurposes older content by reposting it.
That’s it.
No editing. No adjusting. Nothing.
There are a few isolated instances when it makes sense to reshoot a video, but even then, what Brock says is largely unchanged. For the rest, it’s literally the same video. And as far as it being an effective strategy, it works! It’s a high-output strategy with very little input. He simply goes back two or three months, finds a video that performed well, and then puts it up again.
This is how you get on the Explorer Page
For those who aren’t familiar, the Instagram Explorer Page is where users find new content and typically spend most of their time. It is a collection of Reels, Stories, photos, and videos curated by Instagram and based on a user’s interests. Getting your content to appear on the Explorer Page is an effective way to get more followers because the people who will see it are, by definition, interested in what you are posting.
But let’s be clear: content that appears on someone’s Explorer Page isn’t selected from random posts. As Brock explains, the photo of a turtle you took on vacation isn’t going to show up on a turtle enthusiast’s page. What will show up is content from someone who consistently posts about turtles—someone whose niche is turtle lovers.
So if you want to be seen by people who are already interested in your content, then pick and stick to a niche.
If you want people to share your content, ask them
We don’t want to give away every tip that Brock provides (we do want you to listen to his interview 😃), so we’ll end with this one: include a call-to-action (CTA) in your videos.
Here’s the thing: if you want people to do something, you need to ask them. You may think that the next step is obvious, but what is clear to you may not be clear to the next person. If you want users to share your content, then tell them that.
Brock tends to place his CTAs at the end, but he explains some cases where you may want to place it earlier in your video.
There are many more tips that are equally as easy to implement as the three we’ve previewed for you here. Grab your pen and paper, get prepared to take some notes, and enjoy the episode.
