I Get by with a Little Help from My Friends
Who should listen: Those who enjoy inspirational stories of success and who may need a little inspiration themselves.
Key idea: You are not defined by your past or other people’s opinions.
Action item: If you are not where you want to be in your life, then change your environment. Specifically, start to associate with people who are where you want to be.
None of us is an island, and none of us gets by without help from others.
Just ask Erik Allen, this week’s guest on Stay Paid.
It wasn’t until Erik found people who cared about his welfare that he was able to take control and turn his life around. Prior to that, he had witnessed domestic violence, was kicked out of his home, battled addiction, and, by age 21, was bankrupt and owed $28,000.
Things were dark for Erik (you need to hear him tell his story to appreciate just how bad his life was) when a chance encounter and divine intervention changed his life.
Now, instead of “living a rock star’s life without being a rock star,” Erik is drug-free, happily married with children, owns his own company, and hosts a podcast. (Luke was a recent guest!).
But he didn’t do it without first extracting himself from a bad situation and people who were holding him back and, instead, surrounding himself with people who were living the kind of life he wanted to live.
And that’s one of two lessons he’s learned that he wants to pass on to our listeners.
The other is that your past and the opinions of others do not define who you are or what your future will be.
Erik’s story is highly inspirational, so if you feel beaten down by life, if your business is not going the way you want it to go, or if you’re simply having an unusually rough day, do yourself a favor and listen to this interview.
Please enjoy this episode, and we’d appreciate it if you would give us a 5-star rating and leave a review on Apple Podcasts. (Not sure how to leave a review? Click here.)
