5 Ways to Be More Productive on Social Media

Jennafer Benvenuto

Nowadays, social media is an important aspect of doing business. From staying in touch with clients to prospecting new leads, the benefits are endless. However, there’s a good chance that you spend a portion of your day either hopping online or scrolling through your apps to check your notifications—wasting both time and money. But not to fear! Below are five tips to help you better prioritize your time and garner more business.

  1. Use the correct channel.
Let’s be honest: there are a plethora of platforms. From Facebook to Instagram, you might not know which one to use, so you decide to be active on all of them. Although it may seem like a plausible idea, it’s actually a big waste of time. Instead, try to determine which channel would be most beneficial. If you’re in real estate and have gorgeous photography, consider utilizing Instagram to highlight listings. A Facebook business page is beneficial for maintaining customer service and engagement.
  2. Find a dashboard.
Your daily schedule is ever changing. It can be challenging to carve out the appropriate time needed to update your social channels. That being said, utilizing a social media management dashboard can be extremely beneficial. Hootsuite allows you to manage multiple networks (Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn) on one screen, schedule future posts, and track analytics. Onlypult, which is tailored for Instagram, allows you to schedule both videos and photos far in advance.
  3. Block out distractions.
Social media can be a dark hole. As soon as you receive a notification, you may feel compelled to drop everything and log in. However, one notification can lead to countless hours spent perusing accounts. The best way to avoid these distractions? Turn off your notifications! Although social engagement is important, your monthly newsletter and client e-mails should be a top priority. All notifications will still be there the next time you log in.
  4. Utilize the share button.
Creating original content can be time-consuming. But, fortunately, platforms like Facebook and Twitter are packed full of curated content that is waiting to be borrowed. When you come across something on your newsfeed that resonates with you, don’t be afraid to hit the share button. Not only will sharing content ramp up what you offer your followers, it can lead to beneficial business relationships with the accounts that you feature on your page.
  5. Know when to take it behind the scenes.
As mentioned above, platforms are great for customer service. However, there are some instances where taking things offline is necessary. Although you can’t prevent a negative Facebook review from occurring, you can take the appropriate measures to mend the relationship. Consider providing a quick and thoughtful response and then following up with either an e-mail or a phone call.

This month, reevaluate your social media usage to ensure that you’re not only being productive but also reaping all of its benefits.
