It doesn’t matter how long you’ve been in sales or business, we all crave that magic bullet—a system that just rains leads from the sky. In pursuit of our addiction, we end up suffering from shiny object syndrome where we get a call and the person on the other end guarantees us a certain amount of leads in a month, and we end up purchasing their system. Taken too far, it’s easy to spread yourself too thin buying this and that system, only to end up with fewer leads and a lot less money.
In today’s video, I want to give you guys three best practices when choosing a lead generation system.
1. Set a budget
The first point is defining a budget for yourself. As you get and close leads, you’ll invest back into your business, but no one starts out with unlimited funds. You may not be able to afford Zillow’s going rate, but maybe you can swing a couple of hundred dollars a month on direct mail. Whatever the amount, set it aside and dedicate it to generating leads.
2. Commit to working your system
The second point is you need to commit time and effort into actually using your system. Seems self-evident, right? But one of the biggest mistakes I see small business owners make, including real estate agents, is they purchase or devise a lead generation system and then let it sit idly by as they devote time and energy to operational tasks. Operational tasks do not make you money, leads do! You must put in the effort to get results, and I suggest daily activity for a minimum of 90 days to get them. If at that time your system isn’t working, only then should you consider a change.
3. Track your results
Don’t let yourself get to day 91 and have no historical data that illustrates how your system performed. Only when you track and measure how your system performs will you know what’s working and what’s not.
