Hey guys my name is Kristin Sweeney. I’m the Director of Creative Services at ReminderMedia, and I’m going to help you amp up your ad presence in your personally branded magazine with a few simple tips.
1. Set your goal
First, think about what you’re trying to accomplish with the ad. You want to start with the end goal in mind. So what are you trying to do with this ad? Are you trying to promote your brand recognition? Are you trying to give more information about yourself and you want to do a bio with supporting testimonials? Or do you have an event that’s coming up, and you want to promote that event? Or are have you been really active in the community and you want to talk about your community involvement? Or do you have a product or service that you want to focus on? So, think about what you’re trying to accomplish focus on that, and then figure out your text and your images, because next comes your headline.
2. Craft a compelling headline
The headline is the most important text on the page. That’s where you’re going to draw your readers in, because really five times as many people read the headline as they do the body copy. So, remember though—you don’t want to give everything away in the headline you have to leave something for the body copy.
3. Choose your images with care
Then, think about your images. It’s so important to have high-quality images. People are visual creatures, so you’re going to really draw them in with the images. So, think about making sure that the images make sense with the content of your ad. You want to make sure they’re a high-resolution, you want to make sure that they’re well lit, that they’re sharp, and that they’re crisp.
4. Write the copy
Next, think about your body copy. The body copy—you’ve gotten people this far with the ad—so don’t skimp on the details here. It’s really important to make sure that you give the information that you’re trying to convey and that people are expecting in the ad.
5. Include a call to action
And then lastly, you want to think about your call to action. So, don’t just assume because people are reading your ad that they’re going to know what to do next. You want to let them know what to do next. Ask them to reach out to you, tell them what to do next, that’s what they’re waiting for, because this way even if people are skimming over your ad they’re going to know what to do next.
