How to Avoid an Energy Burnout

If your days are spent selling to people on the phone—many of whom you probably don’t even know—it can be easy to get burned out. Even if you love what you do, no one can run at 100 percent all day, every day. While it’s inevitable to feel tired from time to time, there are ways to avoid a total energy burnout.

Walk away from your desk.

Maybe you just had a tough call with a prospect, or maybe you had one that went well, but it completely drained you in the process. Step away from your desk for a few minutes to refuel. Take a quick walk, grab coffee, or take a social media break (which is actually shown to help productivity in some cases). When you sit back down and put the headset on, you’ll be ready to tackle what comes next.

Exercise often.

Although the darker days are setting in and the motivation to hit the gym before or after work is lacking, strive to still go as often as you can. Whether this means teaming up with a workout buddy, continually setting your alarm earlier, or setting reminders for yourself, getting exercise in can help relieve you of any stress.

Use your days off.

There’s a small percentage of people who actually use all of their time off. And maybe it’s for legitimate reasons, but chances are, people just can’t step away from their work. No matter how much work you have to do, use those vacation days and take some time for yourself. The importance of recharging can’t be stressed enough. Otherwise, you run the risk of getting burned out.

Seek guidance from your team.

If you’re feeling burned out, chances are, you’re not the only one. It is the busy season after all. And even in the off-season, some days are just busier than others and require more out of you. Grab lunch with people on your team or even suggest a team-building day—this could help alleviate feelings of stress and doubt, and rejuvenate feelings of why you love what you do.
