How to Utilize Facebook Friend Lists for Follow-Up
Even the most unorganized person can appreciate a good list every once in a while. There’s no denying that creating and following a list can help increase productivity. But, what about finding that productive balance while on social media platforms such as Facebook? Fortunately, Facebook offers a feature that allows users to categorize their friends into lists.
How does the friend list feature help sales-based professionals?
Human connections are crucial to business relationships. Being able to connect on a personal level with past and current clients and prospects can make a world of difference when securing future business. And Facebook’s friend list feature allows you to do just that.
Unfortunately, thanks to Facebook’s recent algorithm change, the majority of organic content goes unnoticed. In fact, statistics claim that only 2 percent of non-paid content gets seen on a daily basis. Meaning you’ll miss the majority of your friends’ posts, through no fault of your own. With the friends list feature you’re able to stay up-to-date with the content that matters the most to you, making it easier to leverage for follow-up purposes.
When grouping your friends, consider creating different lists that include past clients, family members, you social sphere, and local business professionals. This will help you identify who is who, and compel you to keep track of important updates to bring up during your next
conversation.
How to create a list (on a desktop):
- Click Friend Lists under Explore on the left side of your newsfeed.
- Click Create List.
- Enter a name for your list and the names of friends you’d like to add. You can add or remove friends from your lists at any time.
- Click Create.
In addition to any lists that you create, you’ll also see smart lists. These are automatically created by Facebook and stay current based on profile information that you and your friends have in common (e.g. occupation, schools attended, family members, birthplace, etc.).
The takeaway
If you’re looking for a way to spruce up your social media marketing plan and improve your follow-up tactics, utilizing Facebook’s friend list feature is a no-brainer, regardless of your profession.
