Everybody loves a great deal. But in a world filled with steep discounts and exaggerated claims, sometimes things really are just too good to be true.
When homeowners consider selling their homes themselves (a.k.a. For Sale by Owner or FSBO), it may seem like a great way to save some money. But cutting out a real estate agent is just as risky as accepting cut-rate versions of the goods and services below.
Hopefully these will act as some fun food for thought.
- Doctor: Anytime your medical professionals are offering half-off sales, it’s a bit of a red flag.
- Mattress: You will end up spending triple the difference at the chiropractor.
- Tattoo: They get more popular every year, and aren’t really taboo in the workplace. That said, we’ve all seen the difference between expensive ink and cheap ink.
- Skydiving: Usually, you wanna go with a reputable company when it comes to flinging yourself out of a plane.
- Repairperson: Seems like a good deal until the bathroom floods and the ceiling collapses.
- Car : We’re not saying you have to drive around in a brand-new Bentley, but that “$900 Chevy Cavalier” will probably explode on the way home.
- Hairdresser: Unless you’re getting a buzz cut, never go with a discount haircut.
- Seafood: Lobster buffet is always too good to be true.
- Real estate agent: When it comes to the most important and expensive transaction of your life, you want an expert. When you go it alone and sell the house yourself, you’re vulnerable chaos . . . there are just so many moving parts! When it comes to protecting your best interests, a real estate agent is always the way to go.
