You’d be hard-pressed to talk about patriotic symbols in America without the American flag coming to mind. The red, white, and blue iconic banner is quite literally part of our nation’s fabric. And in this special Veterans Edition of American Lifestyle magazine, its meaning is honored in two different articles.
In historic Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the staff at the Betsy Ross House works diligently in an effort to preserve the story of the woman some believe was commissioned to make the first American flag. The Betsy Ross House is a 275-year-old building where the legendary seamstress and upholsterer once lived, and is now open to visitors who come to hear a personal account of her life.
Creating their own homage to the United States of America, Marcos Antonio and Chris Cavedon are traveling around the country for Flag for Hope, an art venture and a social movement where participants across the country make a handprint with red, white, or blue paint to create the shape of a flag, before reflecting on what the American flag means to them.
To complement the patriotic article content, this special Veterans Edition has been designed to raise awareness for how meaningful a simple thank you can be. In addition to the powerful imagery on the covers and the heartfelt content that expresses gratitude for the brave men and women who serve and have served our country, this special edition supports the sending of care packages to the servicepeople deployed in harm’s way, to their children left behind, and to first responders, veterans, new recruits, military families, wounded warriors, and their caregivers.
As always, it’s a pleasure to send you this magazine.
