Does Your Car Matter as a Real Estate Agent?

In short, yes.

There are different types of real estate agents. Some pride themselves on a laid-back approach. Others hold themselves to a high standard when it comes to formality.

Your car has to represent what you bring to the table, and if you drive around in a beat-up Dodge Neon, it’s going to make it a lot harder to display value. No one is saying you have to drive a Cadillac or a Mercedes. In fact, the make of the car doesn’t really matter at all. What does matter is the condition of the vehicle.

If your car is covered in dirt and appears totally unwashed, then it’s going to make you look sloppy and unorganized. If your car has a ton of cosmetic damage, it’s going to make you look irresponsible. If the interior is totally trashed and god forbid you have to take a prospect somewhere, it’s going to make you look like a slob. All of these characteristics are very unbecoming to an agent.

So keep the ride clean and try to make it an extension of your persona. All the factors that matter are in your control. When your car looks sharp and reliable, prospects will think the same thing about you. Take your car to be professionally cleaned, inside and out. A full detailing can be bit pricey (much more than your average automatic car wash) but it will be well worth it the next time your chauffeuring clients.
